Position Summary:

A Recovery Peer Support Specialist uses their lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to provide hope, encouragement, and practical support to individuals working toward their own recovery. This role focuses on empowering clients, modeling recovery-oriented behaviors, and helping people navigate services, build coping skills, and strengthen their support networks. The Peer Support Specialist works as part of a care team to promote resilience, self-advocacy, and long-term wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

  •     Build trusting, supportive, non-judgmental relationships with individuals in recovery.

  • Use personal lived experience to offer guidance, encouragement, and relatable insight.

  • Provide one-on-one peer mentoring, recovery coaching, and emotional support.

  • Assist clients in identifying strengths, goals, and personalized recovery plans.

  • Help individuals access community resources, behavioral health services, housing, employment support, and recovery programs.

  • Facilitate peer-led groups, workshops, and recovery-focused activities.

  • Model healthy coping skills, self-care practices, and recovery principles.

  • Support clients in crisis by offering grounding techniques and connecting them to appropriate professionals or services.

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of interactions and progress according to organizational standards.

  • Communicate and collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other support team members.

  • Uphold ethical boundaries, confidentiality standards, and trauma-informed approaches at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (or willingness to obtain certification).

  • Knowledge of recovery principles, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.

  • Strong communication, empathy, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to support individuals from diverse backgrounds with compassion and respect.

  • Basic documentation and computer skills.
